<\/p>\nThe current 2022 issue of the National Construction Code (NCC) calls for sarking type materials used for the purpose of weather proofing roofs and walls, to comply with ASNZS 4200.1.<\/p>\n
This includes for the construction of external walls as specified in Section F8D3. ASNZS 4200.1 classifies pliable membrane by material property. Suitable membranes may then be selected by duty classification. The duty classes range from Extra Heavy to Extra Light as determined by physical performance parameters of tensile strength, edge tear resistance and burst strength.<\/p>\n

Depending upon the climate zone, a minimum level of vapour permeance is required. Class 3 and class 4 vapour control membranes, as determined by laboratory testing, meet the requirements of of Section F8D3. Pliable membranes also play a role in the determination of energy efficiency of walls. The inner surface emittance of a central reflective membrane is factored into the calculation of R-values in accordance with ASNZS 4859.2 .<\/p>\n
Surface infra-red emittance is measured and classified as IR reflective, IR Semi-reflective or IR Non-reflective by ASNZS 4200.1.<\/p>\n
