New Zealand adopts the revised Children’s Nightwear & Limited Daywear Standard AS/NZS 1249-2014

On March 17th 2016 New Zealand announced that the revised version of the Children's Nightwear and Limited Daywear Standard (AS/NZS 1249-2014) will be mandated as of April 18th 2016.

Businesses have been given a 1 year transition period to comply with the new requirements:

This means that both AS/NZS 1249-2003 (with New Zealand amendments) and AS/NZS 1249-2014 can be used in New Zealand from April 18th 2016 to April 17th 2017, and then from April 18th 2017 only AS/NZS 1249-2014 can be used.

Australia has not yet moved to mandate the new version of the Standard, meaning that AS/NZS 1249-2003 remains the mandatory Standard in this country. It is important to note that there are significant variations between the two versions of the Standard both in terms of testing and labelling of garments.

AWTA Product Testing has been heavily involved in the development of both documents and is able to offer all tests required and to give assistance in compliance for both countries.

Please contact us to discuss your compliance needs for both Australia and New Zealand.
