Introduced in December 2022, the voluntary Australian standard AS 5348 was developed to provide a series of performance requirements designed to reduce costs associated with pools and spas.
While maintaining the physical test methods specified in the superseded industry (SPASA) certification scheme, additional requirements have been included to measure such properties as water evaporation rate, lamination stability and water absorption volumes.
The standard sets specific requirements dependent on the product – they cover:
Bubble / solar covers · Minimum gauge · Tensile strength · Tear strength · Light exposure performance · Buoyancy · Thermal performance · Lamination · Water vapour transmission · Puncture resistance |
Foam pool covers · Tensile strength · Tear strength · Buoyancy · Thermal performance · Light exposure performance · Water vapour transmission · Water absorption · Lamination |
|
Mesh pool covers · Water vapour transmission · Grab tensile strength · Shading · Thread life |
Slat pool covers · Thermal performance · Water vapour transmission |
|
Spa covers · Thermal performance · Water vapour transmission |
